4 Decades at the Mall: Metrotown turns 4-0!

If you grew up in Metro Vancouver in the 80s/90s, your core memories probably involve some hours at Playdium or being wowed by the jungle of Rainforest Cafe.

Grab your vintage denim, kids, Metropolis at Metrotown is officially hitting the big 4-0. To celebrate four decades as an undisputed shopping heavyweight, the Met is throwing a massive, nostalgia-soaked birthday bash from April 13 to June 14.

Here is everything you need to know about the anniversary that’s basically a giant hug for your inner 80s/90s kid.

Neon Glows & Mirrored Rooms

The mall is transforming into a time machine with interactive art:

  • The Infinity Room: A mirrored exhibit designed for you to reflect on the past (and take a killer selfie, obviously).
  • The “Remember When” Wall: An interactive message board where you can post your favorite Met memories. Was it your first job? A legendary mall crawl? Pin it up alongside digital snapshots of Burnaby through the decades.
  • Retro Decor: Look out for disco balls, hanging blossoms, and a giant LOVE installation in the Grand Court. It’s giving “springtime celebration meets 1986.”
