A lot of filming happens here in Vancouver, long known as Hollywood North, masquerading as various parts of the world from New York to Alaska. However, in an upcoming new web series, Vancouver gets featured as itself. (What.) Intrigued?
The Drive is an innovative new VOD series that focuses on Chris, a newcomer to a makeshift family of five roommates struggling to carve their own path while living on Vancouver’s eclectic, diverse and unpredictable Commercial Drive.
Produced by East Van Entertainment, the show was shot on location at small businesses on “The Drive”, and an integral part of the show is to reveal the neighbourhood community and feature local talent and businesses, with cameo appearances from Vancouver’s established and up-and-coming artists and entrepreneurs. Expect appearances by performers Shad, Dan Mangan, Said The Whale, Zach Gray (The Zolas), Ivan Coyote, Ashleigh Ball (Hey Ocean!), Yukon Blonde, We Are The City, Hannah Georgas, and more.
Show synopsis: When Chris gets a new lease on life he moves into 2525 Commercial Drive looking for a clean slate and a second chance, but he quickly finds his troubles have followed him to his doorstep. As he becomes embroiled in the lives of his roommates, tensions are raised, relationships are tested and the household is ultimately forced to confront their fears and take charge of their lives.
Support this local production and catch the premiere screening on August 27 at the Rio Theatre, or watch for free when it comes available on TELUS Optik TV On Demand.
