Award-winning SUYO Modern Peruvian has quickly established itself as a great place to gather and feast with friends, and this year, the joy of camaraderie will extend to the kitchen with an exciting new dinner series. Called “SUYO con Amigos” (SUYO with Friends), this innovative collection of exclusive, one-night-only dining experiences will celebrate the rich tapestry of Vancouver’s culinary landscape by bringing together renowned chefs for collaborative culinary adventures.
The inaugural year of the SUYO con Amigos dinner series promises a thrilling gastronomic journey that will prominently showcase the culinary flavours and techniques that helped bring SUYO to the forefront of Canada’s dining scene in its first 18 months, earning the Mount Pleasant restaurant accolades such as a Michelin Guide Recommendation and Exceptional Cocktail Award in 2023, and recent recognition in 50 Best Discovery and in Conde Nast Traveller’s Vancouver guide. The series will spotlight some of Vancouver’s most accomplished chefs, each representing cuisines that have profoundly influenced Peruvian culinary traditions and SUYO Chef/Partner Ricardo Valverde himself.
The series starts on March 14th and features Chef Jason Hemi from Bar Haifa. Following this SUYO x Bar Haifa collaboration event, Chef Ricardo is excited to be welcoming three additional friends into SUYO throughout the year, including Chef Ivy Yang for SUYO x Elisa (June 13), Chef Warren Chow for SUYO x Wildlight Kitchen + Bar (September 12), and Chef Masayoshi Baba for SUYO x Masayoshi (November 18).
Bar Haifa, which debuted in November 2023 amidst terrific buzz, is the brainchild of a diverse group of close friends and seasoned restaurateurs from Palestinian and Israeli-Jewish backgrounds. Chef Hemi brings a wealth of expertise to the collaboration, which will be an unprecedented merging of Israeli, Palestinian, and Peruvian flavours and techniques. The menu showcases dishes like SUYO’s vibrant Scallop Tiradito alongside Bar Haifa’s succulent Shawarma Braised Lamb Shoulder, as well as an array of snacks and two dessert courses that will spotlight the chefs’ skill and innovation with modern interpretations of traditional fare.
