The Street Store is a heart-warming local project that’s launching this weekend. Vancouver’s newest “pop-up” shop is opening its doors for one day on November 23 from 12 pm – 4 pm. But instead of selling trendy jewellery or ironic t-shirts, the Street Store will be offering a unique set of shoppers the chance to pick up clothes and food at absolutely no cost. Hundreds of clothing items and accessories, along with refreshments and tokens for free hot breakfasts, will be available at the Street Store which will be housed at the Lost + Found Café on Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. Members of the local community in need, are invited to browse the shop and pick up items they’d like to keep – for free.
The project is a collaboration between Electronic Arts and its community program EA Outreach, community leader Mark Brand’s A Better Life Foundation, along with the support of Directions Youth Services and Family Services of Greater Vancouver. Organizers hope the initiative will create a positive experience for some of Vancouver’s most in-need community members. The Vancouver Street Store is currently taking donations.
