Vancouver’s first women-focused bike shop is now open.
We recently popped into Sidesaddle Bike Shop, Vancouver’s newest bike shop & repair service. The women-focused shop is situated along busy bike routes on the city’s east side at Victoria Drive and East Broadway.
Andrea Smith, co-owner of Sidesaddle, said the business, while serving both male and female riders, is primarily geared towards serving the growing population of women cyclists. Andrea, a cyclist with years of experience as a bike mechanic, said she and co-owner Lucas Gallagher, a bicycle mechanic and racer, decided to open up shop after identifying a gap in the market of knowledgeable service and gear for women who ride – there just wasn’t anyone getting it quite right for the women.
Focused on urban and road riding, Sidesaddle aims to offer a casual, friendly, non-intimidating atmosphere for cyclists, carrying a “curated selection of products, so people don’t have to paw through stuff that isn’t very good”. In the near future, they look to add a social and educational element with classes, group rides, and special events. Stay tuned as they ramp up their inventory and events geared toward the cycling community.
