Earlier this year, the Kongslip family shared the bittersweet news of SalaThai’s closure after 38 incredible years of serving Vancouver. Months later, SalaThai owners Sam and Joy Kongslip were honoured with induction as Industry Pioneers into the BC Restaurant Hall of Fame, a fitting tribute to their remarkable contributions to the city’s dining scene.
The Kongslip family announces a brand new chapter with Jay Nok Modern Thai. Set to open in early 2025 in Vancouver’s Olympic Village, Jay Nok draws inspiration from Thailand’s famous street food culture of the country’s four regions, blending the vibrant flavours of Thailand and the spirit of a communal dining experience to Vancouver.
Led by Executive Chef Bumpen “Jay Nok” Khangrang—whose bold culinary artistry was honed both in Thailand and through her tenure at SalaThai—and Bobby Kongsilp, the next generation of the Kongsilp family, the restaurant will continue SalaThai’s legacy of honouring Thai culture and the joy of being together to eat and drink and engaging in Thailand’s famed “Sanuk” (the concept of enjoyment and fun).
Jay Nok Modern Thai will open in early 2025 at 127 West 2nd Avenue in Vancouver.
