Interactive Art: Change the lights on the Science World Dome

OH! is new interactive art installation that allows you to control the lights on Vancouver’s iconic Science World dome. A scale model of the dome, created by Vancouver-based Tangible Interaction, senses the movement of people’s hands, which is then replicated in real-time on Science World.

This free installation, funded by a grant from Creative BC and in collaboration with Science World, is open to the public starting on Friday, August 4, 9pm. The mini dome will be located outside Tap and Barrel in Olympic Village, located at 1 Athletes Way and will be open every Friday and Saturday in August from 9pm to 11pm. Since its launch coincides with Vancouver Pride weekend, Science World will be lit with rainbow colours and will be open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday for the first weekend.

Tangible Interaction created this installation after identifying the need to provide a space in Vancouver where people would feel physically connected to their city, completely present, and socially connected to everyone else around them. OH! aims to do this by creating an opportunity to spark conversation between strangers through a fun, shared experience.

Led by founder Alex Beim, Tangible Interaction is an interactive art + design studio specializing in creating public works of art that allow people to engage in the present while opening up dialogue to create meaningful conversations. They have produced interactive experiences for major brands including Ford,Verizon, ESPN, Heineken, Samsung, Nokia, Adidas and MTV, as well as notable public artworks for CODE Live (2010 Winter Olympic Games), City of Turin, Vancouver Aquarium, Museum of Vancouver, Science World, Siggraph, Cine Kid, Illuminate Yaletown.
