By now you’ve likely seen at least an Instagram snap or two of the mural on Ocean Construction’s six gigantic silos. Giantspart of the 2014-2016 Vancouver Biennale exhibition, has transformed a Granville Island industrial landmark into a gigantic work of public art. Brazilian graffiti artists Os Gêmeos created a monumental, 360-degree, 23-metre tall (75 ft) mural, the biggest public mural of their career and their first in Canada.

Grey City, a documentary produced in Brazil, takes you to the streets of São Paulo and chronicles the compelling creative resistance movement lead by Brazilian graffiti artists including Os Gêmeos, creators of Giants. Grey City will screen Feb 20-22, 2015 in Vancouver as part of the 2015 Winterruption, presented by Emily Car University of Art and Design and Granville Island.

On the streets of São Paulo, Brazil a new form of graffiti was born. Like wildfire, the works of artists like Os Gêmeos, Nunca and Nina spread through the streets of the city, and then to art galleries and museums around the world. But when a new law against visual pollution threatens to destroy their work, the artists unleash a graffiti war against the local government, giving birth to one of the most creative resistance movements in Latin American art.
