We’re excited to announce that we’ll be hosting our very first offline event, in an effort to get to know our community better – and what better way to start than with sharing a meal together. District Local is pleased to partner with hua foundation to present Everyone Dumps: A Dumpling Making Workshop.
Dumplings are enjoyed all over the world and have been a staple in our homes for most of our lives. They come in varying shapes, flavours, and preparations – thin to thick skinned, pleated, knotted, open top, boiled, deep-fried, pan-fried, steamed – and there is certainly no shortage of good dumplings served in restaurants across the city. But there is something about gathering around a table and making batches of dumplings with your own hands that is uniquely satisfying and universally timeless.
On November 30, get hands on as you create plump little parcels of deliciousness – join us around the table filling, folding and twisting, then take time to enjoy some of the fruits of your labour in good company. You’ll leave with tips on fillings, wrappers, techniques, dipping sauces, cooking/freezing, plus about two dozen dumplings of your own creation to enjoy at home.
Support for this event comes from our co-host, hua foundation, and venue sponsor, Propaganda Coffee. hua foundation is a youth-driven non-profit based in Vancouver, dedicated to bringing together the worlds of cultural heritage and social change. Propaganda Coffee is run by Winfield Yan and William Wang, who honed his barista chops with years of local experience (Artigiano, Prado) before opening up shop in Chinatown in 2015. Propaganda sources exclusively from local BC roasters (Timbertrain, Pallet, etc.)
