As a participating artist in the Eastside Culture Crawl this November, Vancouver artist Rachael Ashe presents a new series of intricate abstract artwork hand cut from paper. This is the fifth year Rachael will transform her studio into an intimate gallery setting to welcome hundreds of visitors from across the city.
Also in conjunction with the Eastside Culture Crawl, Rachael has a solo show of recent work on display at Kafka’s Coffee & Tea at 2525 Main Street until December 1st. Intricate Intimacy is a show of works on paper exploring detailed line work created through paper cutting and drawing. The work is process-driven and uses the repetition of simple shapes to create overall geometric forms such as circles, squares, and triangles.
About Rachael Ashe
Rachael Ashe is a self-taught multi-disciplinary artist, working in paper cutting, sculpture, installation, and book arts. She creates cut-paper designs influenced by the repetition of shape and form found in nature: petals radiating from the centre of a flower, or ripples on the surface of still water. She constructs organic forms sculpted through an iterative and spontaneous process of freehand paper cutting. Simple shapes repeated multiple times create an intricate and complex abstract form.
