Capture Photography Festival, Western Canada’s largest celebration of lens-based art, returns this April with a compelling program of exhibitions, public art projects, tours, and talks throughout Metro Vancouver and Whistler. Running from April 1 to 30, 2025, Capture unites both emerging and established artists, and highlights photography’s important role in storytelling and social engagement.
The 2025 Capture Photography Festival will officially launch with an opening event at the Gordon Smith Gallery celebrating the group exhibition Stitched: Merging Photography and Textile Practices on April 1, 2025, from 7-9pm. Co-curated by Emmy Lee Wall, Executive Director and Chief Curator, Capture Photography Festival, and Chelsea Yuill, Assistant Curator, Capture Photography Festival, this exhibition explores the intersections of photography and textiles—two deeply personal yet historically distinct art forms. Featuring works by Simranpreet Kaur Anand, Barbara Astman, Maya Beaudry, Dana Claxton, Liz Ikiriko, Jayce Salloum, Michaëlle Sergile, Michelle Sound, and Lan “Florence” Yee.

ABOUT CAPTURE PHOTOGRAPHY FESTIVAL
Launched in 2013, Capture Photography Festival is Western Canada’s largest lens-based art festival. Annually in April, lens-based art is exhibited at dozens of galleries and other venues throughout Metro Vancouver as part of the Exhibition Program, alongside an extensive Public Art Program, an Events Program that spans tours, films, artist talks, and community events as well as an educational partnership with Emily Carr University.
Capture’s vision is to connect Vancouver to the world through lens-based art. The Festival acts as a platform to expand visual literacy through lens-based art; strives to give voice to traditionally underrepresented communities and to present compelling, urgent lens-based art. We aim to connect communities to incite meaningful dialogue between artists, curators, audiences, organizations and institutions. Capture is committed to presenting perspectives from diverse backgrounds and members of underrepresented groups.
