SUMMARY:The Effect
DESCRIPTION:Is it love or just chemical? A dark\, razor-sharp thriller by Emmy-winning writer of Succession\, Lucy Prebble. The Effect dives into the chemical nature of love through the lens of a clinical drug trial. Connie and Tristan enter a study for a new dopamine-regulating antidepressant. They fall in love. Or do they? As dosages rise\, desire and obsession intensify\, and the boundary between genuine emotion and altered chemistry begins to blur. This provocative and timely co-production between Rumble Theatre and ITSAZOO Productions asks: If you can’t trust your heart and you can’t trust your mind—what’s left? \nRumble and ITSAZOO Productions unite for a thrilling production of Lucy Prebble’s The Effect\, from November 7 to 22\, 2025\, at Progress Lab (1422 William Street) in Vancouver. This provocative\, intimate thriller drops audiences inside a clinical trial where two volunteers test a dopamine-regulating drug under observation; as doses rise and attraction intensifies\, the line between authentic feeling and chemical manipulation blurs. \nTickets from $25 are available at rumble.org.

SUMMARY:Faye's Room
DESCRIPTION:Faye’s Room is the story of Faye Murphy\, an autistic lesbian who works at a queer cafe… and happens to have the power to summon and hide in a magical sensory room at will. When she becomes trapped in this room with her least favourite co-worker\, son of the founder and token heterosexual Chase McLure\, an unlikely bond forms\, and the two find themselves with a bit more in common than they had thought. \n“Faye’s Room marks a long list of firsts for us\,” says Co-Artistic Director\, Adam Grant Warren. “It’s our first play as Glitch Theatre\, and the first mainstage production we’ve put up since the pandemic. It’s Alex’s first produced work\, and the first time we’ve backed a D/disability-identified playwright with a team of a majority of neurodiverse directors\, designers\, and cast. That kind of representation – artists with lived experience of D/disability leading from multiple key positions and embedding access practice in the creative process – that’s the heart of Glitch Theatre. And Faye’s Room felt like the perfect opportunity to really embody that value right out of the gate.” \nFaye’s Room is a moving exploration of neurodivergent solidarity\, intergenerational bonds\, and internalized ableism. \nAbout Glitch Theatre: \nGlitch Theatre\, formerly known as Realwheels Theatre\, is thrilled to share its evolution with audiences and the national theatre community. Embracing a name that captures the moment of transformation\, Glitch Theatre is committed to creating works that challenge expectation\, spark innovation\, and invite new perspectives. \n

A new exhibit reopening the Chinatown Storytelling Center\, Vitality brings together a striking selection of Herzog’s photographs\, capturing daily life in Chinatown\, Strathcona\, and along historic Hastings St. from the 1950s to 1970s. SUMMARY:The Polygon Gallery: Lee Miller: A Photographer at Work (1932–1945)
DESCRIPTION:The Polygon Gallery presents the West Coast premiere of Lee Miller: A Photographer at Work (1932–1945) from Nov. 7\, 2025–Feb. 1\, 2026. This survey exhibition showcases more than 100 images taken during the renowned American photographer’s most intense and productive period: from her time as a highly sought-after studio portraitist\, to a commercial photographer for cosmetics\, then her time as the World War II correspondent for the British edition of Vogue. The collection of images reveal the behind-the-scenes dynamics of an artist managing a photography career amid the myriad challenges facing professional women at the time. Though Miller was previously best known for her collaboration with Man Ray and her close ties to the 1920s Surrealist movement\, the exhibition offers a richly layered\, complex portrait of this important artist and celebrated photojournalist. Lee Miller: A Photographer at Work (1932–1945) was organised in collaboration with the Lee Miller Archives (England)\, and was previously presented during Les Rencontres d’Arles (France) and at The Image Centre (Toronto). \nContent note: The exhibition features war photography\, including images Miller took of the liberation of the Dachau and Buchenwald concentration camps. \nAdmission to The Polygon Gallery is by donation\, courtesy of BMO Financial Group.
