SUMMARY:The Polygon Gallery: Star Witnesses
DESCRIPTION:The Polygon Gallery presents Star Witnesses\, a group exhibition by Monika Szewczyk that assembles works by a constellation of renowned artists whose insightful observations of the cosmos bring new understandings of exploratory and migratory movements on Planet Earth. The title gestures toward each artist’s precise vision\, honed at the technical limits of photography\, and hints at how their work can turn viewers into powerful witnesses in turn. The found and newly produced images take inspiration from the skies while giving substance to vital\, human histories: one woman’s survival in an internment camp; one man’s narrow escape from a white mob; underexposed connections between a war in the Middle East and peace in a mid-sized German town; an artist’s moment of grace on top a moonlit mountain\, far from home. Each work offers the image of the cosmos as material evidence for a distinctive perspective\, worldview\, or imaginary — together\, they attest to the fact that there is no universal way of gazing at the universe. The exhibition features Daniel Boyd\, Vija Celmins\, David Horvitz\, Bouchra Khalili\, Judy Radul\, Thomas Ruff\, Urban Subjects (Sabine Bitter\, Jeff Derksen\, and Helmut Weber)\, Carrie Mae Weems\, and Paul Wong. \nAdmission to The Polygon Gallery is by donation\, courtesy of BMO Financial Group.

SUMMARY:The Play That Goes Wrong
DESCRIPTION:Black Box Theatre Co. is bringing THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG to the Waterfront Theatre on Granville Island in Vancouver\, BC from August 13 to 30\, 2025. This brilliant piece of theatre blends farce and physical comedy with a good old murder mystery. It’s like Agatha Christie meets Monty Python. \nThe story takes place on the opening night of the Cornley Drama Society’s production of The Murder at Haversham Manor – a 1920s large cast murder mystery play\, similar to The Mousetrap. Unfortunately for the cast\, but to the delight of audiences\, the Cornley Drama Society is renowned for overestimating their abilities and for enduring mishaps during their productions\, and we soon find out this performance is no different. \nIf you’re looking for a fun night out this summer for friends\, family\, out-of-towners\, a date\, or just for yourself\, look no further than THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG on Granville Island. Or\, as we’re calling it\, Granville Island Goes Wrong. Recommended for ages 8+. \nThis award-winning play was written by Henry Lewis\, Jonathan Sayer and Henry Shields of Mischief Theatre Company and was first produced in London\, England in 2012. It’s currently enjoying long-running\, successful productions both in London and on Broadway in New York City\, and it is regularly produced by theatre companies all around the world to audiences who just can’t get enough of it.
