SUMMARY:Our Journey Continues: 100 Years After the Chinese Immigration Act
DESCRIPTION:On June 29th\, the Chinatown Storytelling Centre will open “Our Journey Continues: 100 Years After the Chinese Immigration Act”\, a new special exhibit dedicated to honouring the multigenerational families who pursued their dreams and turned grievances into success. \nThe exhibit shares the lesser-known stories of families with ancestors who lived through the period of exclusion (1923-1947) and the living descendants making their mark in diverse professions. In selecting the stories\, the CSC spotlights ordinary people who are making an important impact in our community today\, including teachers\, doctors\, athletes\, artists\, and community organizers. The majority of the families have a connection to Vancouver’s Chinatown\, the vibrant intersection point of their extraordinary stories reflecting diverse occupations and backgrounds.

SUMMARY:Vancouver Opera presents CARMEN
DESCRIPTION:Concluding the season is one of the most beloved and widely performed works in operatic history\, Carmen by Georges Bizet. \nThe blood of passion surges and spills in one of the most beloved and widely performed works in operatic history. Animated by an all-star cast and audacious stagecraft\, the conflicting worlds and failed romance of the sensual\, rebellious Carmen and the possessive military man Don José absolutely burst off the stage. \nFrom the stirring Toreador Song to the tauntingly seductive aria Habanera\, Georges Bizet’s enduring and richly coloured melodies transcend the hummable; they don’t just gesture towards emotions\, they embody the many shapes and shades of passion\, from infatuation to violent jealousy.

SUMMARY:The Harpoonist 'Did We Come Here To Dance' Tour
DESCRIPTION:You ought to meet Harpoonist\, known to family\, friends\, and hardcore fans as Shawn Hall. He is a harpoon/harmonica/harp virtuoso with a couple of decades in the hardcore\, blues-based rock and roll trenches. D’you remember The Harpoonist and the Axe Murderer\, Shawn’s duo with Matt Rogers for 17 blistering years at festivals\, concert halls\, and clubs large and small\, grungy and almost clean? \nWell\, Hall’s turned a new leaf. Harpoonist — Hall’s non-de-plume and the band’s name — is something else again. New songs. New record. New gritty\, tough-assed swamp music with edge and off-the-wall lyrics. More importantly\, new musical partner-in-crime Big Sugar’s Gordie Johnson. Harpoonist (the band) is something else: Hall on harpoon\, and vocals of course\, and some keys. And Johnson\, Big Sugar’s Texas-based producer and guitarist\, on nearly everything else. Plus\, Hall’s pal Jonas Shandel also helped write the songs. \nHarpoonist is ready. There’s a new track ready to be released called “Good People.” The made-in-Texas record is titled “Did We Come Here to Dance.” Due in February on Tonic Records label and all the streaming services. \nOh\, and you almost certainly will dance. Promise. \nhttps://theharpoonist.bandcamp.com\nhttps://www.instagram.com/theharpoonist
