DESCRIPTION:On June 29th\, the Chinatown Storytelling Centre will open “Our Journey Continues: 100 Years After the Chinese Immigration Act”\, a new special exhibit dedicated to honouring the multigenerational families who pursued their dreams and turned grievances into success. \nThe exhibit shares the lesser-known stories of families with ancestors who lived through the period of exclusion (1923-1947) and the living descendants making their mark in diverse professions. In selecting the stories\, the CSC spotlights ordinary people who are making an important impact in our community today\, including teachers\, doctors\, athletes\, artists\, and community organizers. The majority of the families have a connection to Vancouver’s Chinatown\, the vibrant intersection point of their extraordinary stories reflecting diverse occupations and backgrounds.

DESCRIPTION:The Polygon Gallery presents From Slander’s Brand from Nov. 10\, 2023–Feb. 4\, 2024\, an exhibition bringing together three monumental works by Hannah Darabi\, Rachel Khedoori\, and Ron Terada. In response to transformational historical periods — the 1979 Iranian Revolution\, the Iraq War of 2003\, and the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic — each artist asks how art acts as a witness\, interlocutor\, and critical reflector on pivotal moments of historical trauma and transformation. Triana’s solo Arboles (Trees) represents honouring our roots and gathering strength from the past to reach new heights. This thrilling performance showcases flamenco’s technical brilliance and emotional power\, with heart-stirring live music and singing. \nThere will be a post-show artist talkback.
