Hear tales of corruption\, crime\, and entrepreneurship with key players like successful Chinese businessman Yip Sang\, and Joe Celona\, also known as Vancouver’s Al Capone. \n“Soul Food and Strathcona”\, available Saturday and Sunday at 3pm\, explores the legacy of Strathcona’s Black and Italian communities. SUMMARY:John Korsrud’s Absolute Unit
DESCRIPTION:Absolute Unit is a 16-piece psychedelic lounge orchestra\, playing indescribable groove-oriented\, original music\, and maybe a few hits from the 70s – consisting of two drummers\, two keyboard players\, 3 laptop/ electronica performers\, a projection artist\, a bass player\, a guitarist and six horns. \nThe performance will take place at the Woodwards Atrium at Hastings & Abbott.\nSince 1992\, the Hard Rubber New Music Society\, under Artistic Director and Founder John Korsrud\, has grown to be one of Canada’s most active and unpredictable producers of new music. Recipient of the Alcan Arts Award\, the Society released its fifth recording\, the Juno-nominated Iguana (2022)\, toured the Hard Rubber Orchestra across Canada and Europe and produced large multi-media shows\, Cantata for the King and The Ice Age\, a new music ice show. \nAbsolute Unit takes place on the traditional and unceded territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam)\, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish)\, səl̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh)\, QayQayt First Nations.
