SUMMARY:Gala to Change the Cancer Conversation
DESCRIPTION:Every two minutes\, someone in Canada receives a cancer diagnosis. While conventional medicine fights the disease\, patients frequently feel like a number in a fragmented system. Many turn to evidence-based integrative oncology to survive brutal treatment side effects\, but high costs force vulnerable families to choose between financial ruin or suffering in silence. \nThe Parmar Foundation is stepping into this divide to change the conversation. \nJoin us on Saturday\, October 3rd\, 2026\, at the Morgan Creek Golf Course in South Surrey for an elegant evening of community\, purpose\, and hope. Founded by integrative oncology pioneers Dr. Gurdev and Karen Parmar\, the foundation bridges the medical gap. \nAll proceeds directly fund: \nThe Patient Access Program: Fully subsidizing supportive\, whole-person cancer care for low-income BC families. \nClinical Research: Funding academic trials to prove how conventional and naturopathic systems can safely work together. \nEnjoy an exceptional dinner and live charity auctions. Help us ensure whole-person survival is a transparent right for everyone—not a luxury or a secret.

SUMMARY:The Walrus Talks Philanthropy in a Changing Canada
DESCRIPTION:MakeWay\, Philanthropic Foundations Canada\, RBC\, Vancity Community Foundation\, and Vancouver Foundation Present \nThe Walrus Talks Philanthropy in a Changing Canada \nPhilanthropic endeavours in Canada play a vital role in bridging the gaps that social safety nets can’t. With the never-ending trade war with the US and the possibility of a recession looming\, philanthropic support from foundations is more important than ever.\nThe Walrus Talks Philanthropy in a Changing Canada brings together seven speakers who will discuss how philanthropy and charities are evolving to meet the needs of the communities they serve. What is the unique role of philanthropic foundations in the Canadian support system? How does philanthropy change based on the communities it supports? How can the philanthropic sector work with government and the private sector to institute long-term change? SUMMARY:Long Table Dinner with Nero Tondo at the Sharing Farm
DESCRIPTION:The Sharing Farm is thrilled to partner with Chefs Devon Latte and Lucas Johnston for its final long table dinner of the season on September 14th. Guests will enjoy a five-course vegetarian feast celebrating the peak of the harvest\, brought to life with Devon and Lucas’ playful flavours and hyper-local ingredients. The evening begins at 6 PM with a guided farm tour\, followed by dinner at 6:30 PM. \nABOUT THE SHARING FARM \nThe Sharing Farm is a nonprofit community farm on unceded Musqueam territory in Terra Nova Park\, Richmond\, BC. Each year\, it donates over 20\,000 pounds of fresh produce to local food security programs—including the Richmond Food Bank\, the Musqueam Nation’s free farmers market\, and faith-based food initiatives\, reaching up to 2\,200 people weekly. The farm also runs a CSA program\, hosts Richmond’s annual Garlic Festival\, and operates a seasonal farmstand. \nA vibrant community hub\, the Sharing Farm offers events\, workshops\, and volunteer opportunities that bring people together to connect with the land\, sustainable agriculture\, and each other. In 2024 alone\, it engaged more than 9\,000 people through its programs and gatherings. \nABOUT DEVON AND LUCAS \nChefs Lucas Johnston and Devon Latté met at the Acorn restaurant in 2018\, instantly diving into and falling in love with the local concept. They ran the restaurant together for five years and along with the best staff in Vancouver\, collected a Michelin recommendation along with countless other accolades. They’ve been cooking together ever since and don’t plan on stopping! \nTheir food is ingredient-forward\, relying on strict hyper-locality and seasonal organic vegetables to drive their menus along with sustainably sourced seafood. You’ll also find many wild Pacific Northwest ingredients foraged and preserved by the two chefs throughout the year. Expect unique\, punchy and fun flavours! The duo opened Nero Tondo Restaurant in February 2025\, displaying an elevated yet fun approach on local cuisine.
