SUMMARY:Speed Friending at the Library for Newcomers
DESCRIPTION:Are you new to Vancouver and finding it tough to make friends? Maybe English is your second language or one of the many languages you speak and you want a comfortable space to chat with new people. We’re here to help! Bring your favourite book\, e-book\, graphic novel\, DVD\, podcast\, blog or zine to discuss at this fun\, casual\, in-person event at Central Library. \nYou’ll have six minutes with each person to chat about the item you brought and see if there is a friendship connection. At the very least you’ll have a bunch of interesting conversations with people who share similar interests. \nThis event is open to all with limited space available and takes place in the Alice MacKay room in the Lower Level of the Central Library.

SUMMARY:Zoé Jusseret on Comic Books and Graphic Novels
DESCRIPTION:Zoé Jusseret will speak about her journey as an artist\, including influences on her work and favourite techniques\, as well as her various publishing experiences. She works in collage and monotype. Line or patterns are obtained by transfer\, cut out\, glued and added to form landscapes. Each print bears the precise trace of a gesture\, retaining the intensity and texture of the layers of paint. \n— \nZoé Jusseret is a Belgian illustrator\, comic book author and graphic novelist. After taking courses at the Marche-en-Famenne Academy of fine Arts and completing her secondary education\, she enrolled at the Saint-Luc Institute in Brussels. There she was introduced to alternative comics and monotype. Zoe graduated in 2008. Since then\, she has published a number of works and is currently based in Vancouver BC.
