SUMMARY:Eric Cheung: Contra
DESCRIPTION:Choreographer and interdisciplinary artist Eric Cheung premieres his debut full-length work\, Contra. Set within an ethereal world\, Contra merges dance with interactive technologies\, sculpting multi-laser projections and a sound-resonant water installation into an ever-changing environment. \nBringing together an exceptional group of artists and collaborators from diverse disciplines\, the work features three distinct performers—Kinui Oiwa\, Tegvaran Sooch\, and Eric Cheung—whose backgrounds span Ballet\, Contemporary\, Street Dance\, and abstract movement forms. Together\, they craft singular characters that evolve through shifting layers of noise and precise low frequencies composed by Matthew Tomkinson. \nPresented through The Dance Centre’s Iris Garland Emerging Choreographer Award.

SUMMARY:Wood Wide Web
DESCRIPTION:Super Weekend is a monthly program for families. There are lots of activities that explore different features of the Fraser River\, from its booming industry to its diverse ecosystem! \nDid you know that up to 90% of vascular land plants are connected underground by mycorrhizal fungi? These fungi help plants share nutrients and even communicate with each other through an incredible “wood wide web” network. The visible “fruits” of these fungi are the mushrooms we see above ground! \nJoin us on November 29th–30th to uncover the hidden connections beneath the forest floor. Discover how mushrooms and fungi act as nature’s communication system\, connecting trees and plants along the Fraser River. Learn about local mushroom species; explore their fascinating roles in the ecosystem; discover the tasty ways they can be used; and celebrate the cool\, wet season that brings them to life! \n– Learn how fungi connect the forest through the wood wide web!\n– Identify some local mushrooms and discover the delicious ways they can be used.\n– Create your own mushroom print to take home! \nSaturday – Sunday\, November 29th – 30th\, 10:00am – 4:00pm \nCaretakers are asked to remain with their children for the duration of their visit

SUMMARY:Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women
DESCRIPTION:Set in 19th-century New England\, Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women follows the four March sisters—independent Jo (Kate Besworth)\, traditional Meg (Elizabeth Barrett)\, shy Beth (Ming Hudson)\, and vivacious Amy (Kaitlyn Yott)—as they navigate love\, loss\, and the difficulties of young adulthood during the Civil War. Guided by their wise and nurturing mother\, Marmee (Erin Ormond)\, the March sisters find the strength to forge their own paths. Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women is an enduring story of friendship\, romance\, and personal discovery that has charmed generations. \nPlaywright Lauren M. Gunderson—one of the most-produced living playwrights in North America—has crafted a dynamic version of the timeless tale that brings the March family and Louisa May Alcott herself to life with creative staging and modern emotional insight. Gunderson captures the wit\, warmth\, and heart of Alcott’s novel and makes this classic story of family\, resilience\, and a determined young writer feel both nostalgic and contemporary.

SUMMARY:Victoria Raskin Live
DESCRIPTION:Vancouver singer\, songwriter\, and performer Victoria Raskin will bring her ambitious new production Victoria Raskin Live to Performance Works on Granville Island on Thursday\, November 20\, 2025. Doors open at 6:30 PM\, show starts at 7 PM. \nAn evening of music\, dance\, theatre\, and immersive storytelling\, Victoria Raskin Live is set to be a one-of-a-kind experience in Vancouver’s independent music scene – a spectacle that pushes the boundary between concert and performance art. A true labour of love\, the show was made possible through generous support from the Armenian Cultural Association of BC and a network of friends and family who rallied behind Raskin’s vision. In that same spirit of community\, partial proceeds from ticket sales will go to the Society for Orphaned Armenian Relief (SOAR). \nFar from a traditional concert\, Victoria Raskin Live promises a dynamic\, genre-blending experience. Expect hidden dancers in the audience\, choreographed sequences\, Swarovski-covered costumes\, cabaret chairs\, and see-through umbrellas glowing with fairy lights – all wrapped in a narrative designed to pull audiences into Raskin’s world. The show will also feature six dancers choreographed by Malia McMullen (known for her work in film and television\, including World of Dance)\, and a live band featuring Tim Charman (bass)\, Chris Sallis-Lyon (drums)\, Nathan Barrett (trumpet / sousaphone) and Cole Tinney (keyboard). \nFor more information\, please visit victoriaraskin.com.

SUMMARY:Thomas Anfield: Sock Monkey Pop Up Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Vancouver-based artist Thomas Anfield has found a perfect mix of tragicomedy\, playfulness\, and human truth in a subject he’s painted for over twenty years: the beloved Sock Monkey. In his latest exhibition\, Sock Monkey Scenarios\, Anfield explores the labyrinthine and tangled conditions of being human through these iconic\, anthropomorphic figures. \nThe paintings invite viewers into carefully choreographed scenes where Sock Monkeys pose singly or in groups\, spinning\, slumping\, or standing nobly as if thinking great thoughts. Sometimes they appear joyful and lighthearted; other times\, grotesque or melancholic. Their gestures and relationships mirror our own\, evoking both laughter and reflection. \nA contemporary figurative painter and performance artist\, Anfield has exhibited internationally across North America\, Europe\, Russia\, and\nAfrica at venues including The National Gallery of Senegal\, and Salon de Plastica Mexicana. He was the co-creator of the company Butoh-A-GO-GO\, who were invited by the Moscow Ballet to perform on three different occasions. They were also awarded a full production residency\nat Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity\, creating work which then premiered at the Vancouver International Dance Festival. His paintings\nhave been featured in Modern Painters\, Elle\, Maclean’s\, Vancouver Magazine\, and Preview Magazine. Anfield is a Canada Council\, Inter-\nArts grant recipient and a Dance grant recipient.

SUMMARY:East Side Culture Crawl 2025
DESCRIPTION:Vancouver’s Eastside opens up every November for the city’s biggest artist studio tour. Over 500 artists in 70+ buildings across Strathcona\, Railtown\, and the False Creek Flats invite you into their creative spaces for four days of art\, discovery\, and direct connection with the people making it. \nYou’ll wander through industrial buildings and converted warehouses\, stumbling onto unexpected treasures around every corner. It’s raw studios\, works in progress\, and real conversations with artists working in everything from painting and ceramics to textiles and digital media. \nThe event is free\, and it’s your chance to buy directly from artists (better prices\, more support for creators). Bring comfortable shoes\, some cash\, and a loose plan. With this many studios\, you can’t see everything\, and that’s okay. The best finds often happen when you follow your curiosity into a building you hadn’t planned on visiting. \nCheck culturecrawl.ca for dates and locations.

SUMMARY:East Van Panto: West Van Story
DESCRIPTION:A West Van crew. An East Van gang. One wild holiday romance in the middle of a dance battle and a housing crisis. It’s East Van Panto: West Van Story – where love gets weird and the rent’s still too darn high! \n\n\n\n\nWhen a freak atmospheric tsunami strands West Van influencer Holly\, and her curling crew The Hurry Hards\, deep in the wilds of East Van\, she’s ready for disaster — but not the romantic kind. Enter Joes: charming\, striking\, and a proud member of The East Van Pets… their sworn enemies!\n\n\n\n\nAs Holly battles the expectations of her West Van mega-developer motherfather\, Boberta Rainy\, she finds herself caught between two cities\, two families\, and one seriously unexpected romance. Will she follow her heart — and Joes — into a new world of love\, dance battles\, and civic resistance? Or will Boberta’s towers and renovictions crush everything in their path? \nThis holiday season\, come watch Holly and Joes try to Second-Narrows-bridge their differences and sweep each other off their feet. Love\, laughter\, and low-income housing — now that’s a triple takeout! \nTheatre Replacement’s East Van Panto is back for its thirteenth (!) year — and this time\, we’re switching it up. Say goodbye to the classic fairy tale and hello to a Romeo-and-Juliet-inspired romp like only East Van can deliver! \nEast Van Panto: West Van Story brings together a mix of new and familiar faces: Playwright Marcus Youssef (Wizard of Oz\, Pinocchio) teams up with newcomer Pedro Chamale\, and making her Panto debut is Director Chelsea Haberlin. And of course\, no East Van Panto would be complete without our beloved Composer extraordinaire Veda Hille. \nGet ready for another year of East Van’s wackiest\, most joyfully subversive all-ages tradition!
