SUMMARY:Royal Winnipeg Ballet presents Carmina Burana and T’əl: The Wild Man of the Woods
DESCRIPTION:Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet (RWB) presents a striking double bill of celebrated favourite Carmina Burana\, featured alongside the evocative West Coast premiere of T’əl: The Wild Man of the Woods\, on stage February 9 & 10\, 2026 at The Centre Vancouver (777 Homer St). \nCarmina Burana fuses bold\, athletic movement with Carl Orff’s thunderous and evocative score to create a visceral experience that transcends traditional storytelling. This high-octane work demands everything of its dancers and leaves audiences exhilarated\, moved\, and inspired. \nHailed by critics and audiences alike at its world premiere\, T’əl: The Wild Man of the Woods\, created and choreographed by RWB School alumnus Cameron Fraser-Monroe\, is a historic collaboration of Indigenous artists that fuses storytelling\, contemporary ballet\, and classical music – honouring the richness of oral tradition. Narrated in both English and Ayajuthem by Elder Elsie Paul\, and scored by JUNO-nominated Cris Derksen\, this stunning work marks a bold new chapter in the RWB’s repertoire. \nTickets: Ticketmaster.ca and information: RWB.org

SUMMARY:Hold On Let Go
DESCRIPTION:Theatre Replacement and Company 605 are thrilled to announce the program for the 2026 edition of HOLD ON LET GO\, taking place Tuesday\, February 3 to Saturday\, February 7 at the Russian Hall in East Vancouver. \nCurated by Maiko Yamamoto\, Josh Martin and Lisa Mariko Gelley\, HOLD ON LET GO is an annual\, independently produced festival showcasing contemporary performance work by Vancouver and Canadian artists. This beloved festival has solidified its place as a vital space for artists and audiences to come together in the sharing of new\, experimental works that seek to challenge what performance is and can be. \nNow in its 16th season\, this year’s program celebrates the persistence and imagination of independent theatre\, dance\, and performance at a moment when the very possibility of making this kind of work is under pressure. This is the fragile\, necessary space that experimental artists and gatherings like HOLD ON LET GO have always protected: a space for contemporary performance that asks artists and audiences to lean into uncertainty\, stay with complexity\, and dream new possibilities for a world in visible collapse. \nMainstage works include it is for when you meet me by Anjela Magpantay; Today is the evening to strike lightning/Aaj To Bijiliyan Girane Ki Shaam Hai by Justine A. Chambers and Simran Sachar; Sleep Has Her House: A Live Score by Magazinist; and a special workshop presentation of End of Greatness by Theatre Replacement/Maiko Yamamoto and musician/composer/theatre maker/performer Veda Hille. The two in-development sharings of new works at this year’s festival includes Frankenkenstein by ellis cheadle and lost season by Conor Wylie. \nThese visionary works will move audiences – zooming out and in and out again\, drawing attention to what is right here and what still feels impossibly far away in this current cycle of reconstruction. Seen through the eyes of the artists in the program\, collapse can reveal many things – transformation\, connection\, and renewal. \nIn addition to these performances\, HOLD ON LET GO will host a series of Festival Gatherings\, including an Opening Night Party featuring Veda Hille Sisterhood; an artist talk by Sarah G. Stanley (Ontario/Nova Scotia) and Dylan Robinson; and a special edition of Not Quite Ready – a collage party while listening to new or unfinished songs. This year’s festival will also see the return of the Emerging Artist Series\, curated and hosted by Theatre Replacement’s Creative Producer Intern\, Amanda Sum.

SUMMARY:You’re Just a Place That I Know
DESCRIPTION:You’re Just a Place That I Know is a remarkable theatrical concert based on his album of the same name. It traces the history of JUNO-nominated singer-songwriter Adrian Glynn McMorran McMorran’s Ukrainian grandparents\, who left their homeland during World War II to begin life anew in Montreal. The show powerfully evokes questions of ancestry and generational connection through song and story\, both from McMorran and other members of the diverse 7-piece band\, while a multigenerational choir fills the stage. \nMcMorran leans into the details of his grandparents’ story\, from his 16-year-old grandmother being forced by Germans from her Carpathian village into indentured labour a thousand kilometers away to his grandfather folk-dancing to win cigarettes from impressed Allied soldiers in a refugee camp. But he realizes there was more to tell than just his own family’s narrative.

SUMMARY:Everything Has Disappeared
DESCRIPTION:Worldwide\, the Filipino diaspora is the vital engine that powers the beauty\, health and promise of our delicate\, globally interconnected society. \nEverything Has Disappeared celebrates and explores the very unique relationship the Filipino diaspora has to the global economy: they are everywhere and deeply involved in our lives as central threads in a tapestry that defines human dignity itself. Filipinos are domestic workers in Angola\, they staff the oil fields of Libya\, with hundreds of thousands working as nannies in Hong Kong. They sing on the stages of remote provinces in China and help run hotels in the Middle East. A quarter of the world’s seafarers are Filipino\, comprising 70% of workers on Japanese boats. \nIf Filipinos disappear\, everything disappears.

SUMMARY:The Polygon Gallery: Lee Miller: A Photographer at Work (1932–1945)
DESCRIPTION:The Polygon Gallery presents the West Coast premiere of Lee Miller: A Photographer at Work (1932–1945) from Nov. 7\, 2025–Feb. 1\, 2026. This survey exhibition showcases more than 100 images taken during the renowned American photographer’s most intense and productive period: from her time as a highly sought-after studio portraitist\, to a commercial photographer for cosmetics\, then her time as the World War II correspondent for the British edition of Vogue. The collection of images reveal the behind-the-scenes dynamics of an artist managing a photography career amid the myriad challenges facing professional women at the time. Though Miller was previously best known for her collaboration with Man Ray and her close ties to the 1920s Surrealist movement\, the exhibition offers a richly layered\, complex portrait of this important artist and celebrated photojournalist. Lee Miller: A Photographer at Work (1932–1945) was organised in collaboration with the Lee Miller Archives (England)\, and was previously presented during Les Rencontres d’Arles (France) and at The Image Centre (Toronto). \nContent note: The exhibition features war photography\, including images Miller took of the liberation of the Dachau and Buchenwald concentration camps. \nAdmission to The Polygon Gallery is by donation\, courtesy of BMO Financial Group.

SUMMARY:The Canvas of Light and Sound
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special immersive evening as we welcome the Year of the Fire Horse. Expect a beautifully curated atmosphere where light\, sound\, and art come together in a way that feels both intimate and unforgettable. The Canvas of Light & Sound is an experience for those who love culture\, music\, and evenings that feel a little out of the ordinary. \nOne year to the day after its debut at Notional Space\, The Canvas of Light and Sound returns as a living\, evolving immersive experience. \nFollowing acclaimed editions at Gallery 881\, Notional Space\, and Stride Festival\, this return marks a new chapter in the ongoing Vancouver’s own immersive series that continues to evolve with each iteration. \nThe immersive experience is over two evenings\, curated to bring you along a magical journey\, allowing sound\, movement\, and image to shape one another in real time by the hands of an impressive line of Artists: \nAhmed Maher | internationally recognized oud virtuoso and composer\, creates expansive live soundscapes rooted in improvisation and deep listening. \nJessica Charter | visual artist and painter\, brings the canvas to life before the audience’s eyes\, responding moment by moment to sound and motion. \nVeronika Mova | contemporary dancer and movement artist\, embodies the unfolding work\, translating rhythm\, texture\, and gesture into physical form. \nKayla Price | jazz singer-saxophonist is known for her playing in the all-femme quintet Maiden Voyage and her incredible soloing skills. \nConrad Good | prolific jazz bassist known for his musical responsiveness\, solid groove and deeply attentive improvisation\, making him a sought-after bassist in ensembles across genres. \nGeoff Claridge | renowned jazz musician\, composer and educator. His primary instruments are clarinet and bass clarinet. His mastery of melodic expression is matched only by depth of his sound. \nTogether\, over 2 magical nights\, they create a shared field of attention where music\, painting\, and movement emerge together as a single\, continuous act of creation. \nThe Canvas of Light and Sound is not observed from a distance. You are invited into the process\, to witnessing art as it comes into being and disappears again. \nEach night features a different configuration of energy\, material\, and expression. Those who attend both evenings will experience two entirely distinct works\, so we encourage attending the two nights\, as no two performances are the same so expect surprises! \nCapacity is limited. \n
