This edition of the Vancouver Chinatown Storyteller’s Family Saturday will spotlight “Getting to Know Chinese Folk Instruments.” \nExperience the captivating tones of traditional instruments such as the erhu\, suona\, and guzheng. The 2024 Juno-nominated singer Ginalina\, along with the talented musicians of the Vancouver Chinese Music Ensemble\, will lead an engaging performance and demonstration. This event is co-hosted by the Vancouver Chinese Instrumental Music Society. \nYouth of all ages will also have the opportunity to hold and try playing these instruments!\n⁠\nDrop in anytime between 11 am and 1 pm to take part! Activities and admission are FREE for youth (17 & under). Youth under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. It is worth mentioning that some of the works are private gifts specially created by the artist for the collector\, and we take this opportunity to share them with you in the exhibition. \nThis exhibition will present the artistic works of artists Jiang Jianzhong\, Wang Pinkang\, Huang Azhong\, Ren Min\, Liu Xiaoqing\, Chen Pengju\, Shi Chan\, Wu Ke\, Wang Zimo\, Zhu Nanshui\, and Xu Chang. They are all leaders in the field of Shanghai-style art. Their works are collected by major museums\, art galleries\, and private collectors\, and have won many awards at home and abroad. \nThe works of Jiang Jianzhong\, an international mainstream painting artist\, are sublime\, quiet and elegant. This time his work “Woman with Top Hat” will be exhibited. \nHuang Azhong’s work “Scenery on the Table” not only reflects the exploration of the structural properties of Cubism\, but also incorporates the connotation of oriental art. He is one of the representative figures after Lin Fengmian who combines Chinese and Western art exquisitely. \nLiu Xiaoqing is a respected figure in the calligraphy world. He has made outstanding contributions to the research and development of calligraphy and calligraphy education. \nThe works of other artists in the exhibition all have their own unique artistic styles and artistic ideas. \nDuring the exhibition\, you will also have the opportunity to communicate face-to-face with the collector and learn about the stories behind the paintings.

Desirée Dawson and Jody Okabe will be playing a sun-soaked set of inspiring tunes from the deck of the Providence\, a tall sailing ship anchored just off Jericho Beach. \nThis year\, we are fundraising to support the Heiltsuk Nation as they take Canada and British Columbia to court over a devastating oil spill in their territory in 2016. Spread a blanket and watch from the beach\, or throw down a canoe\, kayak or stand-up paddleboard & float out for a magical on-the-water concert experience!

Stages set across the village will feature music all-day\, headlined by the six-piece dance band Dr. Strangelove and Midnight Cruiser Band\, which offers ‘70s and ‘80s rock with a modern twist. Roving entertainers like jugglers and stilt walkers will keep crowds amused\, as festival goers explore the Art Show\, Japanese Culture Show\, and activities at Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site.
