Through our survey and forum\, we will build on our current knowledge and broaden our collective understanding of your needs and how best to accommodate them. \nYour feedback is essential to driving change in the accessibility of digital services. We encourage all our community members to come and voice their experiences and opinions. A final report with the forum’s findings will be sent to the panellists\, related nonprofit\norganizations\, grantors who may fund these needs\, and government representatives. \nHelp us explore possible solutions and resources to bridge the gap between the accessible technology and digital services you currently experience and what they could become. The forum is an open\, honest\, and inclusive dialogue between a panel of organizational representatives and our beautiful province’s diverse disability community. \nThe panelists for the coming Accessible Community Forum include:\n– Kim Donaldson and Shane Kehoe from Fable\, an inclusive tech company working directly with adaptive tech and people with disabilities.\n– Ean Price from Technology for Living\, a nonprofit organization providing people with disabilities innovative equipment to increase their independence and wellbeing.\n– Nate Toevs from Neil Squire\, a non-profit organization that is revolutionizing Canadians’ with disabilities’ lives through accessible technology.\n– Jenn McLean and Katrina Summers from the Government of BC’s Web Governance and Digital Accessibility Team. \nStart the conversation by taking the Digital Accessibility Survey by Sunday\, July 16\, at 11:59 PM PT. \nYou are the expert of your experience. Be heard. \nIf you require assistance taking the survey\, registering or attending this event\, please email us at info@connectra.org. Closed captioning will be available.\nCheck out our previous Accessible Community Forums at disabilityfoundation.org/acf\n—\nAbout the Disability Foundation:  Established in 1985 and based in Vancouver\, B.C.\, the Disability Foundation strives to support people with physical disabilities by supporting accessible programs to enjoy outdoor activities\, make social connections\, and access personalized adapted devices. With the support of our well-rounded\, multi-disciplinary board members\, our leadership team has experienced great success in empowering the disability community to reimagine what is possible.\n—\nAbout the ConnecTra Society:  Formed in 1999 by Vancouver tetraplegic Sam Sullivan\, the ConnecTra Society is a connecting agency linking people with physical disabilities to activities and programs that will\, over time\, allow them to grow\, gain confidence and become increasingly more active and involved in community life. We aim to get all people with significant disabilities living in British Columbia as socially active and engaged as possible through our workshops and other resources.

SUMMARY:WIRTH Hats Quad Tandem World Championships
DESCRIPTION:On July 15-23\, 2023\, Vancouver-based brand WIRTH Hats will host the Quad Tandem World Championships. The one-of-a-kind adventure race\, which is the first of this scale for the company\, will draw teams from around the world to compete on quad tandem (four-person) bikes for a grand prize: The Quad Cup. \nThe Quad Tandem World Championships is the ultimate team race and a mental health fundraiser for the WIRTH Hats Counselling Fund. During this year’s event\, six teams will cycle over 800 kilometres\, from Keremeos to Nelson\, B.C.\, over the course of eight days. Participants include Team Great Britain\, Team USA\, Team Brazil\, Team New Zealand\, the Women’s Canadian Team\, and the Men’s Canadian Team. The race will be featured by Youtuber DownieLive and documented by Emmy award-winning cinematographer Adam Miller. \nWIRTH Hats was inspired by Jakob Wirth\, who had a vision of creating a hat company however sadly passed away by suicide in 2014 before he could achieve his dream. Jakob envisioned something recognizable; something stylish; something people would love to wear. For him\, hats weren’t just an accessory\, they were the perfect addition to an outfit and a central part of what could make someone feel unique. In 2018\, WIRTH Hats was founded by Ben Miller as a tribute to his dear friend Jakob and other loved and lost friends. \nA “hug for your head\,” each hat is made in Vancouver and serves as an everyday reminder that mental health is a priority and can affect anyone. To that end\, the company applies profits from hat sales and event hosting towards free online counselling for people in need. To date\, WIRTH Hats has sponsored over 6\,000 counselling sessions — and has set its sights on reaching 10\,000 sessions sponsored through the Quad Tandem World Championships.

SUMMARY:Tall Tales: The Quest Is Up To You!
DESCRIPTION:The Improv Centre (TIC) on Granville Island is pleased to announce its family-friendly summer show\, Tall Tales: The Quest Is Up To You!\, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm from June 30 to August 19\, with a special opening night on Thursday\, June 29 at 7:30pm and an additional Canada Day long weekend performance on Sunday\, July 2 at 7:30pm. \nTickets start at $26.50 and are available online at www.theimprovcentre.ca or in person at the TIC Box Office (1502 Duranleau Street). Tickets for opening night (June 29) will be priced at $15. \nJoin our hero on a fantastical journey where the audience is the author. Inspired by fantasy fan favourites like The Princess Bride\, Labyrinth and Lord of the Rings\, Tall Tales: The Quest Is Up To You! will whisk audiences off to a faraway land where laughs and larks abound. What happens along the way? It’s up to YOU! \nTIC ensemble member and creator of Tall Tales: The Quest Is Up To You!\, Mary Saunders\, says “There’s something very appealing about a classic story arc to me\, and fantasy tales are a really fun\, limitless way to explore that. I wanted the format to reflect some predictable and nostalgic elements of storytelling while still being unpredictable in nature as well as rich and diverse in content. It has been exciting figuring out how to create a form that can both reflect those fantasy storytelling elements while being fresh each time. I’m looking forward to our ensemble getting the time and space allowed by long form to explore character arcs more extensively and dive into the richness of the world we build based on unique suggestions from our audience.” \nFor more information on The Improv Centre\, please visit www.theimprovcentre.ca

SUMMARY:Our Journey Continues: 100 Years After the Chinese Immigration Act
DESCRIPTION:On June 29th\, the Chinatown Storytelling Centre will open “Our Journey Continues: 100 Years After the Chinese Immigration Act”\, a new special exhibit dedicated to honouring the multigenerational families who pursued their dreams and turned grievances into success. \nThe exhibit shares the lesser-known stories of families with ancestors who lived through the period of exclusion (1923-1947) and the living descendants making their mark in diverse professions. In selecting the stories\, the CSC spotlights ordinary people who are making an important impact in our community today\, including teachers\, doctors\, athletes\, artists\, and community organizers. The majority of the families have a connection to Vancouver’s Chinatown\, the vibrant intersection point of their extraordinary stories reflecting diverse occupations and backgrounds.
