Wood Wide Web

Super Weekend is a monthly program for families. There are lots of activities that explore different features of the Fraser River, from its booming industry to its diverse ecosystem!
Did you know that up to 90% of vascular land plants are connected underground by mycorrhizal fungi? These fungi help plants share nutrients and even communicate with each other through an incredible “wood wide web” network. The visible “fruits” of these fungi are the mushrooms we see above ground!
Join us on November 29th–30th to uncover the hidden connections beneath the forest floor. Discover how mushrooms and fungi act as nature’s communication system, connecting trees and plants along the Fraser River. Learn about local mushroom species; explore their fascinating roles in the ecosystem; discover the tasty ways they can be used; and celebrate the cool, wet season that brings them to life!
