Weaving Workshop with Red Cedar Woman

Step into a hands-on cultural experience and learn the art of cedar weaving with Red Cedar Woman, an Indigenous-owned and operated company dedicated to sharing authentic, traditional craft.
In this intimate workshop, you’ll be guided by Jessica Silvey—an accomplished self-taught weaver of Coast Salish, European, and Portuguese descent, from the Silvey Family of Egmont, BC. Jessica’s connection to weaving is deeply rooted in her upbringing, shaped by time spent in the forest with her grandmother and a lifelong relationship with cedar. Today, she carries forward these traditions through careful harvesting, preparation, and weaving practices that reflect both heritage and personal expression.
Participants will learn foundational cedar weaving techniques and create their own cedar-woven frog to take home. Along the way, Jessica will share insights into her process—from gathering materials to the meditative rhythm of weaving—offering a meaningful introduction to this enduring Coast Salish art form.
All materials are provided. No experience necessary. Spaces are limited—advance registration is recommended. For ages 12+.
