Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF) 2026

Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF) presents its 45th edition from October 1–11, 2026. One of North America’s largest and most dynamic film festivals, VIFF’s 2026 program features roughly 160 features, 90 short films, and two episodic series representing 76 nations — including 12 world premieres, 6 international premieres, 15 North American premieres, and 49 Canadian premieres — with an expected audience of 110,000 attendees.

The festival opens with Jesse Eisenberg’s The Debut, starring Julianne Moore and Paul Giamatti, and closes with Martin McDonagh’s Wild Horse Nine, starring John Malkovich and Sam Rockwell. Canadian premieres include Tony Gilroy’s Behemoth!, Cristian Mungiu’s Fjord, and Ryusuke Hamaguchi’s All of a Sudden, alongside world premieres from BC filmmakers and an expansive documentary program that positions VIFF as the country’s second-largest documentary festival. An expanded VIFF Live program — highlighted by a one-night-only evening with legendary composer and DEVO founder Mark Mothersbaugh — and new industry initiatives through the recently launched Institute for the Moving Image, including the Co-Production Forum, Works in Progress, and VIFF Slate, round out one of the festival’s most ambitious editions to date.
