Scotiabank Dance Centre Open House

From bellydance and Bollywood to contemporary, flamenco, and Latin, the annual Scotiabank Dance Centre Open House is a chance to sample a wide range of exciting dance styles in an afternoon of open classes and workshops. Participating companies and artists include Flamenco Rosario, TomoeArts, Voirelia Dance Hub, SHIAMAK Vancouver, Performance Clinic, Vancouver Ballet Society, and more. (12-5pm, free admission.)

A special evening presentation features the world premiere of The African Dream, created by Rwandan-born Isaac Gasangwa (aka Izo Dreamchaser). It follows the life of a young man growing up in the aftermath of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi people in Rwanda, and his determination to create a better world for the future. Featuring ten dynamic performers, the intricate choreography draws on African dance, hip hop, and martial arts, blending thrilling dance with text and storytelling. (8pm, tickets $28/$22.)
