Belle Spirale Dance Projects and Vancouver Chamber Choir present The Little Match Girl

Belle Spirale Dance Projects and Vancouver Chamber Choir, in partnership with Covenant House Vancouver, present The Little Match Girl at the Vancouver Playhouse on November 13 and 14, 2026. In an ambitious reimagining of David Lang’s Pulitzer Prize-winning choral composition The Little Match Girl Passion, 10 Belle Spirale dancers join the choir’s 16 singers, led by Kari Turunen, in a live production that unites movement, voice, and light in a deeply moving meditation on hope, dignity, and our shared humanity.

Choreographed by Kevin O’Day and featuring special guest artist Alba Nadal, this striking reinterpretation of Hans Christian Andersen’s beloved tale transplants a young girl’s journey into the reality of contemporary Canadian streets — where each match she strikes becomes an act of hope, a fragment of memory, a quiet assertion of dignity. Suitable for ages 12 and up. Educational tables in the lobby will connect audiences with Covenant House’s life-changing front-line work supporting youth experiencing homelessness.
